The UK Court of Appeal is set to hear the appeal in Charman v Charman in March 2007, after Lloyd’s underwriter John Charman was granted leave to appeal against the award to his wife of £48 million ($93 million) in a divorce settlement in July 2006. In July Mr Charman, who is now based in Bermuda, was told he must hand over more than a third of his assets as estimated by the High Court judge who made the original order. Speaking through his solicitors, Withers, Mr Charman said: “I hope that by appealing against this order I will be able to help bring some clarity, fairness and coherence into the law.”
