Indian Law Firm Granted Singapore License

Wadia Ghandy, one of the oldest law firms in India, has received approval to set up a fully-operational practice in Singapore.

Wadia Ghandy is one of the five Indian law firms registered with the Singapore Attorney-General's Chambers and is authorised to practice Indian law. The new office is led by Nicole Shroff, a partner who received her license to practise in Singapore in May 2011. Bangalore-based partner Ankit Majmudar and Mumbai-based partner Shabnum Kajiji also recently obtained their Singapore licenses this year and will be travelling back and forth to the city-state on a regular basis.

Some of the firms' largest Singaporean clients include Temasek, HDFC and DBS Bank. In a statement, the company said majority of its current work involves private equity, debt and banking, wealth management and finance. The firm expects to expand its range of services in the next months as more of its partners obtain their Singapore licenses.

"We have a strong existing clientele in and around the region, and we know that we can provide better legal services to them and all others located within this geography who are interested in doing business with India," said Shroff.

Wadia Ghandy has a total of 18 partners and 108 lawyers specialising in areas of real estate, litigation, banking, private equity, corporate and merger and acquisition. Forty per cent of its activities are conducted internationally.
