Sloane Robinson, a London-based hedge fund manager, paid its four directors £53.4 million ($102 million) last year, according to company filings. Highest paid was managing director George Robinson who received an estimated £17.8 million, as well as £100,000 in dividends. The other directors are Hugh Sloane, Richard Chenevix Trench and Mark Haworth. Last year was a particularly good one for Sloane Robinson, which saw revenue rise to £75.6 million, compared with just £10.3 million in 2003. A total of £64.2 million was spent on salaries, £5.1 million on social security and £118,000 on pension costs, while the 17 other fund managers at Sloane Robinson received an average of £1 million each. Salaries at hedge funds tend to be particularly high, particularly if they are privately run, like Sloane Robinson. But even listed Man Group paid its chief executive £6.7 million in 2004, making Stanley Fink the highest paid FT100 chief executive.
