HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt, HSBC’s wealth management and commercial banking unit in Germany, reported a 21 per cent year-on-year rise in operating profit in the first nine months of 2005 to €87.4 million ($102.5 million). After tax profit came in at €18.9 million, up 31.2 per cent in the period under consideration. The bank said this was particularly notable because last year’s results included a one-off gain due to the sale of an indirect shareholding in HSBC Guyerzeller Bank. The bank said services to high net worth individuals reported the biggest increase in operating results of all the customer business groups, rising to €25.1 million from €15.8 million. This was mainly due to an expansion of the securities business and success in winning new customers, the bank said in its results statement.
