Butterfield Adds To Property Lending Team

Butterfield Private Bank has named Stephen Murrell as client director of its property lending team in London, in a bid to grow the lending side of its business.
Murrell was latterly a director at Mitre Capital Partners, and he has previously worked for Barclays, Westpac and Ansbacher & Co in his 30-year career.
The company’s private banking arm in the UK has been under new leadership since last autumn in the shape of veteran Danny Dixon. “One of our key areas of focus is lending and we have been able to help a number of wealthy individuals secure large mortgages between £1 million [about $1.6 million] and £8 million since the start of the year,” he told this publication last month. “Although borrowing from a private bank is seldom cheaper than a high street bank, wealthy clients believe the level of service is worth paying for.”
The private bank’s parent, the Butterfield Group, is headquartered in Bermuda.
