Bessemer Trust makes appointments on both coasts

Multifamily office hires former Goldman Sachs, U.S. Trust wealth managers. Bessemer Trust recently brought on a couple of new senior staffers; one on each coast as it turns out.
Washington, D.C.-based Michael Orfini has joined the multifamily office from Goldman Sachs to lead its business-development efforts in the mid-Atlantic region. Former U.S. Trust wealth manager Mindy Day-Hodges will provide wealth-planning and investment-consulting services to clients of Bessemer's Los Angeles offices.
Orfini reports to Lawrence Fisher, head of Bessemer's office in D.C. Day-Hodges reports to Mark Lipson, senior resident office for Bessemer in Los Angeles.
Essential roles
Orfini is a former U.S. Navy captain who advised vice presidents Al Gore and Dick Cheney. After leaving national service in mid-year 2001, he joined Goldman Sachs as a private-client advisor.
"Michael will play an essential role in Bessemer's long-term growth plans for the mid-Atlantic region," says Fisher. "His experience in business, government and the military provide him with a unique vantage point to work with prominent and accomplished families."
Day-Hodges was a private-client portfolio manager at U.S. Trust. She has been in the wealth-management industry for about 12 years.
U.S. Trust has been part of Bank of America since early July 2007.
"Mindy brings extensive wealth management and investment experience to this position," says Lipson, her new boss. "She is particularly knowledgeable in the area of equities and balanced account portfolios."
This past summer Bessemer hired Suzanne DeWitt, formerly with the law firm Baker & McKenzie, as a legacy planner in its Miami office.
New York-based Bessemer oversees more than $50 billion in assets for about 1,800 client relationships. It has 12 offices in the U.S., one in London and one on the Cayman Islands. -FWR
