London based Berkeley Law has hired private client solicitor George Merrylees from across town rivals New Quadrant Partners.

Merrylees will focus on advising international private clients with complex private wealth issues, the firm said.

At New Quadrant Partners Merrylees focused on international tax-planning and wealth-structuring for international and domestic high net worths. A multi-linguist, Merrylees read Arabic at Exeter University and speaks French, Greek, Dutch and Afrikaans.

“His market knowledge and insight make him a hugely valuable addition to the team. Also with over 80 per cent of our business coming from international clients, his linguistic skills are an added bonus,” said Nick Rucker, partner at Berkeley Law.

In April this year Berkeley beefed up its residential property division and acquired fellow London law firm Kensington Law.

Berkeley Law was set up in May 2010 by four partners with significant experience in the private wealth advisory industry. The firm acts for and advises high net worth clients and families from the UK and abroad and their advisors – including family and estate offices and the institutions who service them.
