BNP Paribas WM Names New CEO For Spain
The new CEO's in-depth knowledge of the local market and strong international background will be key to expanding BNP Paribas Wealth Management's business in Spain
Paris-headquartered bank BNP Paribas has appointed Juan de Gonzalo (pictured) as CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management in Spain, starting in November.
In his new role, de Gonzalo will drive BNP Paribas Wealth Management’s plan in Spain to provide ultra-high net worth (UHNW) families and entrepreneurs with financing solutions, investments, real estate and wealth planning.
He brings nearly 25 years of experience in international banking, having held several senior positions in wealth management throughout his career, the firm said in a statement. Most recently, he led the bank for entrepreneurs segment at Deutsche Bank, which encompasses the wealth banking (private banking and wealth management) and business banking teams. Between 2001 and 2022, he served in various executive roles at Switzerland’s private bank UBS. His last position was global segments head, covering the UHNW and FIM (financial intermediaries) segments, as well as the corporate advisory group and real estate brokerage practices, the firm added.
He has also been a lecturer at universities and on postgraduate business programmes.
“BNP Paribas Wealth Management is already a leader in the eurozone and we are looking to accelerate our commercial development, especially among large entrepreneurs and families,” Vincent Lecomte, CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management, said. “Juan de Gonzalo's in-depth knowledge of the local market and strong international background will be key to further expanding our business in Spain, where we already have solid foundations, combining both our international franchise and the group’s strong business lines.”
“Spain is a key market for BNP Paribas with a very strong local presence through 14 business lines and one of the most comprehensive offers in the Spanish banking sector. The further development of our wealth management franchise is part of our strategic plan to steer the onboarding of UHNW clients by capitalising on the group’s One Bank approach, working alongside other business lines like BNP Paribas real estate and our investment banking division which has a long track record in Spain,” Cecilia Boned, country head for Spain at BNP Paribas, added.
