ANZ Pushes Ahead With App, Contactless Revolution

The banking group is forging ahead with developments around apps and contactless payments.
Australia and New Zealand Banking Group is to offer Google’s
Android Pay to clients so they can make contactless payments with
Android phones, after being named an Australian launch partner
for the mobile payment platform.
By the middle of next year, ANZ debit and credit cardholders in
Australia can use the Android Pay channel where contactless
payments are accepted.
ANZ also confirmed it will launch its own mobile wallet for
Android in the first quarter of 2016, offering customers a choice
of solutions. More than 60 per cent of all card transactions in
Australia are contactless.
Among recent developments, ANZ at the start of October appointed Shayne Elliott, its chief financial officer, as its incoming chief executive when Mike Smith, current CEO, steps down in January next year. Originally from New Zealand, Elliott has more than 30 years’ experience in international banking including in Australia, New Zealand, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. He joined ANZ as CEO institutional in June 2009. Smith will step down after eight years as CEO and as a director on 31 December.
