ANZ Names Former Commonwealth Exec To Newly Created Advisory Role

ANZ has expanded its financial advisory business with the appointment of Paul Barrett to the newly-created role of general manager for advice and distribution.

The move comes as Australian banks step up their game in preparation for AMP's planned takeover of AXA Asia Pacific and as ANZ itself is bulking up following its acquisition of ING Australia. Barrett most recently served as general manager of advice at Colonial First State, the wealth management arm of Commonwealth Bank. He will report to John Van Der Wielen, the wealth management director of ANZ.

In this new capacity, Barrett will be responsible for all financial planning and advice distribution networks, including aligned dealer groups, open market dealer groups, and other alternative channels. ANZ has over A$46 billion under management.
