ABN AMRO makes a senior appointment, replacing current CFO.

Dutch bank ABN AMRO has appointed Ferdinand Vaandrager as its interim chief financial officer, starting in May, subject to regulatory approval. 

Vaandrager will replace Lars Kramer, who took up the post in June 2021 for a four-year stint. Kramer has decided to pursue another career opportunity outside the Netherlands-based bank.

Vaandrager, who has worked in banking for more than 25 years, has gained experience in the financial industry both in the UK and the Netherlands. He is currently head of investor relations, the bank said in a statement.

Previously, he held various commercial leadership positions with a particular expertise in corporate and institutional banking and financial markets at ABN AMRO, Royal Bank of Scotland and Citigroup.

ABN AMRO CEO Robert Swaak said: ‘Ferdinand has been with ABN AMRO for almost 15 years. He is a unifying and energetic leader who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the strategy and financial performance of the bank in his current role as head of investor relations.” 

“Moreover, he has shown great talent in balancing the interests of all our primary stakeholder groups. I am convinced that as our interim CFO he will be instrumental in the delivery of our strategy execution, while promoting operational excellence and delivering on our promises to our clients and other stakeholders,” he continued.

The latest appointment comes after a series of moves at the bank. In November last year, Carsten Bittner was appointed as chief innovation and technology officer for a four-year stint. He took over from Christian Bornfield, who left the bank in May 2022.
