Venture capitalist Jon Moulton, one of the highest-profile figures in UK venture capitalism, has acquired a significant stake in Liverpool-based .

Seneca said in a statement that Moulton, via his family office, Perscitus Advisors, has acquired a “significant minority shareholding in the company”.

Moulton is founder and managing partner of the private equity firm Better Capital; he is also a former managing partner of Alchemy Partners, another private equity house. Moulton is a prominent figure in the industry and frequently quoted in the media about business and economic issues.

The deal follows the acquisition of Liverpool-based Miton Capital Partners, the fund division of Miton Group, in January. The deal is subject to Financial Conduct Authority approval.

The funds currently managed by Miton Capital Partners are: CF Miton Distribution Fund; CF Miton Diversified Growth Fund; and the Midas Income & Growth Trust.

“Seneca Investment Managers is a firm with a huge amount of upside potential. Under Stuart Eaton’s leadership, I have no doubt that an already successful fund management team will go from strength to strength. We have a lot planned for the new company and are backing it to become a major force within UK financial services,” said Moulton.

Last month, Seneca Investment Managers appointed international investment expert David Warnock as its new chairman.

Seneca Partners manages a number of specialist investment funds, catering to high net worth entrepreneurs and family offices. The group has offices in Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester, and also advises companies on interest rate hedging arrangements and corporate finance matters.
