Chan previously served as investment counsellor and vice president at EFG Bank, where he contributed to the bank's mutual fund research and due diligence efforts in Asia. Before that, he worked for Macquarie Private Bank and Lonsec Limited. His new position is based in Hong Kong and has him reporting to Grant Kennaway, head of Asia-Pacific fund research.

He takes over from Sunny Ng, who has moved on to become a vice president and portfolio strategist at State Street Global Advisors in Hong Kong.

US-headquartered Morningstar expanded into Asia in 2000 and has since grown its business to include Japan, Korea, India, Mainland China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
