7 May 2013
Northern Trust has named a new country manager for its Hong Kong business. Brian Ovaert, who has been with Northern Trust for the last 21 years, takes the lead role in Hong Kong, after serving as chief executive of Northern Operating Services in Bangalore, India. In addition to this role, he also was the Asia-Pacific regional head of operations and technology for Northern Trust. Even with the new Hong Kong-based appointment, he retains the O&T position, overseeing teams in Singapore, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Bangalore. Prior to these, Ovaert held executive roles in London and Chicago, including senior business unit risk officer for O&T, European regional head of O&T and worldwide head of fund administration. He joined the company in 1992. Northern Trust has been operating in Hong Kong since 1995 and in 2012 moved to larger quarters to accommodate its growing business. Early in 2013, the company expanded its fund administration and custody services to support locally-domiciled Hong Kong funds. Other recent additions to the local team are Bradley Blackwell as sales and relationship manager for securities lending clients in Asia-Pacific and Elmer Lo as relationship manager for asset servicing in North Asia.
