Octagon Financial Services, a wealth manager specializing in sports and entertainment clients, has selected Dynasty Financial Partners’ open-architecture platform of wealth management services and technology. Octagon provides financial planning, investment advice, bill paying and other concierge-type services to wealthy individuals in the sports and entertainment industries. “Our clients generate a lifetime of earnings over a short period of time,” said Jan Plewes, managing director at Octagon. “Their peak earning years typically occur at a very young age and their assets have to provide security far after their careers come to an end,” said Frank Zecca, senior vice president. Plewes said the firm decided to partner with Dynasty to execute its offering in one customized and integrated package. Octagon’s move to Dynasty is a reminder of the importance for wealth management firms to cater to high net worth individuals with specialized needs, due to extremely demanding professions and/or unusual earning profiles. In a sign that firms are starting to - or indeed already do - recognize this, in December last year Osborne Advisors introduced a new offering targeting professional athletes. The firm said OA Pro aims to ensure that assets earned during an athlete's relatively short playing career are properly managed to allow for a financially secure and comfortable post-retirement lifestyle. In the US, Octagon has offices in McLean, VA, and Chicago, IL. The firm also has a branch in Waterloo, Canada.
