Royal Bank of Scotland, parent firm of the private bank Coutts, has named a new country executive and international banking head for Thailand. Charly Madan assumed his new post in 1 December, joining from Bank of Ayudhya, one of the Thailand's oldest banks, where he was the head of corporate banking. In this new capacity, he will be responsible for the overall management of the Thai business in accordance with regulatory guidelines. He reports directly to Madan Menon, head of international banking for Asia-Pacific. Madan replaced Plakorn Wanglee, who had left in November to become senior executive vice president and head of origination and client coverage at Standard Chartered Thailand. The new Thai head brings over 25 years of financial services experience to the role, having previously worked for Citibank Vietnam and Thailand and also Standard Chartered Thailand. Royal Bank of Scotland is expanding its presence in Asia-Pacific, including Thailand, as it expects more trade activities to steam from investment migration into the fast-growing region. The UK-owned bank said it expects to see transaction services in the region to increase by 20 to 25 per cent this year. A few days ago, meanwhile, Coutts confirmed its new managing director, market head for South East
Asia, to be Jacqueline Chua. She resigned from UBS, as reported by WealthBriefingAsia. Chua is based in Singapore.
