Withers, the international law firm, has appointed Simon
Michaels as a partner in its Singapore
office, becoming the third partner to join the group in the city state since
the office opened in May. Michaels will take up his role in Withers’ wealth planning
practice from January next year, focusing on tax and wealth planning, advising
Singapore’s ultra high net worth families and trust companies, the firm said in
a statement. A dual-qualified English barrister and solicitor, Michaels
has been listed as a leading individual in renowned legal ranking publications,
including Legal 500 2011 and Chambers Asia
2012. Moving to Asia in 2009, Michaels has advised a number of
Asia’s wealthiest and most prominent families, putting into place trust and other
wealth structuring solutions for several US multi-billion net worth clients
and has acted in contentious international trust matters, Withers said. Most recently, he was a partner and head of the South East
Asian private client practice at Berwin Leighton Paisner.
