Software House Helps Ensure Mobile Apps At South Africa's Nedbank Are Secure

Nedbank, the South Africa-based group, has recently signed up for security systems on its mobile banking offering to be provided by Entersekt, a software company.

Entersekt deploys bi-lateral digital certificates to most types of mobile phone so that secure communications between a user and a business can be guaranteed, Entersekt said. The issue of security is becoming increasingly important as more banks, including wealth management firms, develop mobile-friendly services and products.

“Since our deployment of this technology some six months ago and with over six million sessions under our belt, there has not been one single case of a phishing attack on our networks,” Mike Brown, chief executive Nedbank, said. (“Phishing” means conning people into giving valuable information, such as bank details, by masquerading as a legitimate business.)

The Nedbank Application Suite includes a share trading offering, corporate batch authorisations and business banking password reset capabilities. Other apps include mobile banking, balance enquiry, payments, transfers, branch locators, foreign exchange calculators and application lead forms.

Nedbank previously used ApproveIt, an interactive transaction authentication solution also developed by Entersekt.
