The prospect of wealthy living is the number one factor enticing
British expats to China, according to a report released by
Natwest International Personal Banking.  Natwest IPB's fifth annual 'Quality of Life' study reveals that 87 per cent of respondents
cite an 'affluent lifestyle' as
one of the major benefits of residing in the world's most populous country.
This is closely followed by 'increased salary' (86 per cent) and 'career
advancement' (69 per cent). According to the report, conducted in conjunction with the Centre
of Future Studies, the majority of
British expats living in China are on work assignments (63 per
cent) and almost four in ten (37 per cent) are teaching
English in schools and universities. With regards to the
financial services sectors of China, the authors say that with an
increasing number of major international players looking to further expand
their market presence in China, the industry is experiencing a talent squeeze. Dave Isley, head of NatWest IPD, adds, "The emergence
of China as a world trade crusader seems to have enticed British expats in
search of their fortune. With a wealth of career opportunities and high
salaries, China seems to be a magnet to British expats."
