A former UBS and Morgan Stanley manager, David Thomas, has set up his own London-based executive search firm called Strathdon Global, registering the firm last month, this publication can exclusively report. Thomas most recently worked as an investment advisor for Morgan Stanley in Texas before returning from the US to the UK. Among other roles, he has worked at UBS Wealth Management in London; he also set up the wealth management division at Hamilton Caine Executive Search, based in London’s Mayfair district. His career started at UBS’ investment bank in New York after graduating from university at St Andrews, Scotland. “I set up Strathdon Global as I had a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve and the kind of company and culture I planned to build. I sought to utilise the knowledge and experience I have gained to build a company based around principles such as simplicity, knowledge and hard work,” Thomas told this publication. The company will be solely focusing on the UK and the international wealth management market to begin with, he said. "That said, my education and training from UBS and Morgan Stanley, and let’s be honest, good old-fashioned common sense, taught me all about diversification, or 'not putting all your eggs in one basket', as some people might say,” Thomas continued. “As the company develops further, I would like to complement our wealth management offering by bringing in new people, with proven search experience and in-depth knowledge of other industries. I like to work in threes, so ideally I would like to add two further practice areas to the company, as I have found this approach has a nice balance, whilst remaining manageable,” Thomas added.
