SEC Has No Secret Plan on Tougher Hedge Fund Regulation

A Democratic member of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Roel Campos, has urged the regulator to impose guidelines on how hedge funds value investments as managers run the risk of "obfuscating any clear understanding of the underlying risk". Speaking at a recent Securities Industry Association conference Mr Campos reassured the audience that the SEC has no "secret plan" to strictly regulate hedge funds. "The SEC's limited regulation framework is the right, light touch," he said.
