Wendy Spires
13 September 2011
BlackRock, the US asset management giant, has named Simon White as head of investment trusts, recruiting him from RCM, where he had held the same role. RCM is part of Allianz Global Investors, and as head of investment trusts at the unit he oversaw the business management and development of Allianz’s closed-end funds range. In his new role White will be responsible for the business management and development of BlackRock’s range of investment trusts and the company secretariat in the UK. He reports to Jonathan Ruck Keene, who has been given the widened role of head of closed-ended funds for EMEA. This will see him oversee the closed-ended funds sales and marketing teams along with leading new business development strategy, the firm said. White and Ruck Keene share board responsibilities in their new functions. In other developments, recent days saw a coup for BlackRock in the shape of the hire of Mark McCombe as its new chairman for the Asia-Pacific region. McCombe, who was latterly the chief executive of HSBC Hong Kong and previously led HSBC Global Asset Management, will become a member of BlackRock’s global executive committee and global operating committee.
