American International Group has appointed Peter Juhas as head of strategic planning based in New York.

Juhas, who previously served as managing director for investment banking at Morgan Stanley, will be responsible for working with AIG's business to develop plans to capitalize on global growth opportunities, the company said in a statement. He reports to Brian T Schreiber, the executive vice president for treasury and capital markets for AIG.

"As we intensify our focus on growth and sustainable returns, these efforts will be critical as we move toward independence while ensuring that the US government recoups its entire investment in AIG," said Schreiber.

AIG operates in more than 130 countries.
