At a working party meeting, HM Revenue & Customs has revealed the results of both the New Disclosure Opportunity and the Tax Health Plan. The NDO has yielded around £82 million (about $125 million) from approximately 5,500 disclosures, an average of £14,500. The THP has yielded around £9 million from approximately 1,500 disclosures, an average of £6,500, but with one case alone worth £1.2 million, HMRC is “encouraged” by the results. Stephen Camm, a tax partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, said: "HMRC is making it clear that it holds information, particularly in relation to doctors and dentists, that still hasn't been disclosed. From the disclosures that have been made, HMRC has uncovered individuals who should have come forward but who have failed to do so (for example other partners in the same medical practice)." “HMRC is already working on cases for prosecution and expects numbers to rise. There is no doubt that any medical practitioner that has something to disclose to HMRC must deal with this issue now," he continued. “HMRC has also recently received much of the information requested from banks which underpinned the NDO and expects to have processed this data into a workable format by early autumn. It will risk assess this information and start approaching the public shortly thereafter," Camm added.
