DTZ, the UK-based real estate advisor, has named David Schaefer as the new head of DTZ Investment Management, Asia Pacific and global head of institutional capital for the same.

Schaefer joins the company from Citigroup, where he was managing director, head of Asia Pacific at Citi Property Investors (Hong Kong). His appointment is effective immediately and he will be based in Hong Kong, the firm said in a statement.

DTZ has over 10,000 staff worldwide and has operations in China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. However, while the company has more than $2 billion under management from its London office, it has yet to expand significantly in Asia.

Part of Schaefer's new responsibilities is building the company's investment management business in the region. As global head, he will focus on expanding DTZ's investment management client base globally.

He reports to Serkan Bektas, the global head of capital markets.
