SoCal commercial bank Hanmi adds wealth offerings

New consulting and planning unit to be led by ex-Pru exec Mike Soonam Lim. Los Angeles-based commercial bank Hanmi Financial has opened a wealth management unit to support its goal of becoming "a leading regional commercial bank," according to a news release.

The new business group will offer investment advice and financial planning services to the bank's business customers, many of them small business owners and professional practitioners.

Hanmi CEO Sung Won Sohn says that Michael Soonam Lim, formerly a v.p. president in the wealth-management division of Prudential has been hired to run the group.

Hanmi, which caters mainly to Korean-Americans, has 22 branches in California. -FWR.
