Who’s Moving Where In Wealth Management? – Theta Capital, River Global

Amsterdam-based , a European investor in blockchain venture capital, has made two senior hires. Gijs Burgers has been appointed chief operating officer, and Eduard van Asten has been appointed head of compliance and risk.

Burgers was previously COO at the Nasdaq-listed company Hilbert Group AB, one of the largest liquid digital assets hedge funds globally. He has a history as a board-room consultant and entrepreneur in the fintech and blockchain spaces and has been active in crypto and digital assets since 2012. Burgers was corporate strategist at APG, a large pension fund and co-founded Onramper.com, a global aggregator of onramp and offramp methods. (The "ramp" terms relate in this case to channels to convert fiat currencies, such as the dollar, to cryptos such as Ethereum, and vice versa.) He has two master's degrees from Erasmus University Rotterdam and Tilburg University.

Van Asten was previously head of compliance and risk at Zing NL, a subsidiary of HSBC, aiming to create a global digital payments application. He was also mglobal senior compliance expert for ING Group and CCRO for firms including Vivid Money and Pensify Group. He has two masters degrees and a BA in law from Erasmus University. Van Asten has 14 years of experience in compliance, risk and regulatory matters for financial institutions.

Founded in 2001, Theta Capital Management has been among the earliest and largest institutional investors globally to invest in blockchain technology, having deployed capital in the space since January 2018.

River Global
, a boutique active equity asset manager, has appointed Donald Amstad as chief client officer (CCO), with immediate effect. He will be heading up the distribution, marketing and client services functions, reporting to Matt Hudson, CIO.

Amstad, who is an “industry heavyweight,” with more than 40 years of global financial markets' experience working on the sell and buy sides, has a global perspective having lived in Asia for over 20 years, the firm said in a statement.

Amstad spent 15 years at Aberdeen Asset Management in Singapore (2007 to 2022) as global head of client growth where he acted as the global ambassador for their Asian and emerging market investment expertise. Before that he worked at JP Morgan Asset Management, Bank of America and JP Morgan. He started his career at Nomura in 1983.
