International law firm has appointed Richard Burger (pictured) as a partner in the commercial dispute resolution team, based in the UK.

Burger was formerly at WilmerHale where he co-headed the London investigation and criminal litigation team. He has more than 25 years’ experience advising private individuals, large corporations and professional services firms on complex domestic and international regulatory enforcement and associated criminal investigations. As a former investigative lawyer and prosecutor the FSA, the predecessor to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), Burger’s experience encompasses a range of areas including corporate crime, securities enforcement, and compliance within the financial services sector.

He has expertise in guiding boards on matters such as regulatory oversight, anti-financial crime measures – particularly those related to bribery – and corporate governance. Burger has successfully defended clients under investigation by a range of agencies and prosecution authorities including the FCA, Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), National Crime Agency (NCA), HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), and the US Department of Justice (DoJ).

Richard’s arrival follows the appointment of two dispute resolution partners, Henry Winter and Gavin Margetson, who joined the commercial dispute resolution team last month, both based in the Singapore office.

has made a series of promotions to director across the group’s services and global locations.

In the family office division, Darryn Faulds, Ryno Visagie and Luan Fouche (Johannesburg), Keri Breadner and Tessa Burrows (Isle of Man), Leanne Stuart (Jersey) and Udayesing Bheergoonath (Mauritius) have been promoted to director.

In investment management, Archie Burt, Mark Leshnick, Miki Caves and Philip Richardson (London) and Brad Fainsinger (Johannesburg) have been promoted to director.

Cecile Schlub in legal and tax advisory (Monaco) has also been promoted to director, as have Eugene Johannes (Cape Town), Michelle Weipers (Isle of Man) and Stefano Marzo (Neuchatel) in Group Services.

The new directors are accompanied by 12 promotions to associate director, 16 promotions to manager and 25 promotions to senior associate across the group’s offices and services.
