Based in Dubai, Ogier serves clients in the Middle East, offering legal, corporate and fiduciary services, and regulatory consulting from its new location in the Dubai International Finance Centre.

Goldring, who is known as a senior statesman across the region, will work with clients in the Middle East, the firm said in a statement. He will be an ambassador for Ogier's global jurisdictions – BVI, Cayman, Guernsey, Ireland, Jersey, Luxembourg – helping to develop client relationships, including family offices, regional and international onshore law firms and financial institutions.

Goldring has more than 20 years' experience supporting families in the region and extensive knowledge of the needs of private clients around the world, the firm added.

"Simon knows the region exceptionally well and has an excellent reputation," Ogier's executive partner, client solutions Jonathan Hughes said. “His role is to be an interface between clients in the Middle East and our experienced home teams across the fields of law, corporate and fiduciary services and regulatory advice." 

The appointment comes as a number of wealth managers, fiduciary and administrator businesses, private banks and law firms have set up offices and added teams to the United Arab Emirates in recent years, attracted by the rising wealth of the region, and the nations of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), in particular. Among recent developments, in August 2022 the Dubai International Financial Centre said it was launching a global family business and private wealth centre.

Hawksford, the corporate, private client and fund services provider, also officially opened its new office in Dubai last week. In January, WRISE Group also set up a Dubai subsidiary, adding to a trend of Asia and Singapore-based wealth firms that are setting up in the Gulf. See more commentary here and here.
