Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management
has appointed Huub van der Riet as senior portfolio manager from 1 October and Chong Peng as portfolio manager from 15 September.

Van der Riet (pictured) has 28 years of experience in the financial sector, including the past 23 years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management (formerly NNIP, ING IM). Van der Riet, who shaped NNIP's impact strategies, was lead portfolio manager impact strategies for the past seven years. He started his career at ABN Amro and Aegon.

Peng comes from APG Asset Management, where she progressed from a traineeship to portfolio manager of the Focus Equity Strategy a concentrated long-term strategy with a strong focus on ESG.

With these appointments, the firm is strengthening its sustainable equity strategy which aims to invest in high-quality companies that are demonstrably committed to transitioning to a sustainable economy, the firm said in a statement.

With this reinforcement, we are well positioned to further shape our clients' sustainability ambitions,” Ivo Kuiper, head of sustainable equity strategy, said.

Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Mangement, which is part of Van Lanschot Kempen, provides sustainable returns, fiduciary management services, manager selection, portfolio construction and monitoring, alongside a number of actively-managed investment strategies. As of 30 June 2023, Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management’s client assets totalled €94.0 billion ($100.9 billion).

International law firm has appointed David Cordova Flores as tax partner in the Luxembourg office.

Cordova Flores’ appointment will reinforce the tax team, and expand its services in tax advisory in the firm’s Luxembourg office, the firm said in a statement. He has over two decades of experience guiding clients through complex international tax planning and structuring. Cordova Flores’ practice focuses mainly on helping clients from Spain and LatAm using Luxembourg as a gateway for structuring their investments globally.

Originally from Mexico and a registered public tax accountant, the firm said that Cordova Flores will be instrumental in expanding its Latin American practice. He is also a lecturer at the Maastricht University and Guadalajara CPA Association (Mexico) on international tax.

“David’s technical profile and experience is a great complement to our tax practice and will allow us to actively develop the Spanish and LatAm markets. He has a well-developed client base across Latin America and will therefore be instrumental in expanding our LatAm practice and it is great to have him on board,” Yacine Diallo, partner and head of the firm’s Luxembourg office, said.

Cordova Flores’ appointment follows the arrival of international partners: Tom Snider in Dubai as head of international arbitration (see here), and Simon Le Wita, litigation and dispute resolution in Paris.

The online bank has appointed Claudio Bedino as the general manager for Italy and Southeast Europe, with immediate effect.

In his new role, Bedino will be responsible for developing the bank’s presence and offering key products in one of the most important markets for the bank.

Bedino will be succeeding Andrea Isola, who held the position temporarily following his recent appointment as VP of European Markets and Business Operations at N26.

Bedino has extensive experience in the fintech world, gained at some of the most innovative scale-ups in the industry, where he operated in highly-regulated sectors, integrating solutions, products, and marketing for growth and innovation. Among his various achievements before N26, he founded Starteed, a pioneering startup in the crowdfunding sector in Italy, and later co-founded Oval Money, an application designed to support and encourage Millennials to save and invest.

“I am excited to welcome Claudio, a professional with established knowledge of the local and European financial sector. I am sure he is the right person to further strengthen the presence of N26 in Italy and in the Southeast area of Europe, and to develop our strategy of sustainable growth of the bank in these markets,” Maximilian Tayenthal, founder, co-CEO and COO of N26, said.

N26 launched its 100 per cent digital banking experience in Italy in 2017 and today has a team of about 70 people focused on market development, based in Italy and at its German headquarters.
