Nuveen
, an initiative helping investors, asset managers and businesses embrace regenerative finance, has appointed Mike Berners-Lee to join its advisory board.

His appointment will strengthen the existing advisory board, which is responsible for helping shape the direction of the Global Returns Project, as it continues to bridge the gap between investment and direct regeneration of the planet, the firm said in a statement. He will assist with expanding the Global Returns Project’s strategy and outreach.

Berners-Lee, who specialises in carbon footprinting, will bring his expertise in the climate action sphere, the firm continued.

He is a professor at Lancaster University, where his research includes supply chain carbon modelling, sustainable food systems and the environmental impact of ICT.

Welcoming the move, Yan Swiderski, co-founder of the Global Returns Project, said: “We have been inspired by Mike’s research and leadership for many years now, and it’s an honour to have him officially involved with the Global Returns Project.”

Berners-Lee added: “I have been working to tackle the Climate Emergency for many years, and it’s clear that a big systemic shift is needed. Initiatives like the Global Returns Project play a crucial role in supporting climate solutions beyond most market mechanisms and corporate sustainability strategies. I look forward to helping the Global Returns Project ensure that every financial strategy directly regenerates the planet.”

The Global Returns Project is a UK registered charity helping individuals, wealth managers, asset managers and businesses embrace truly regenerative finance.
