Breedon is currently a non-executive director at Barclays Bank where he chairs the risk committee and sits on a number of other committees. He is also chairman of Apax Global Alpha and previously served as executive chair of the Northview Group.

In a long career in pensions and saving at Legal & General, he served as group chief executive between 2006 and 2012.  In recent years, he has also served as a director of the Association of British Insurers and non-executive director on the Financial Reporting Council.

In a statement on Thursday, Quilter indicated that Breedon would “challenge, advice and support” management on business performance and decision-making in his new post.

Quilter chairman Glyn Jones called his experience "unique" as a former FTSE CEO and seasoned non-executive director in FTSE 100 and private equity backed businesses. "He brings a deep understanding of UK regulated financial services, corporate governance in UK public companies, and effective board challenge and support in building out a sustainable long term business,” Jones said.

Quilter said Breedon will also join its risk, remuneration, corporate governance, and nominations committees.
