Hagerty joined Vanguard in 1997 and is responsible for overseeing the firm’s global fund range, assessing performance and portfolio consistency, while monitoring Vanguard’s internal equity and fixed income managers, as well as the 28 external advisors for its active fund range. He will join Vanguard’s international leadership team and report to James Norris, head of the international business.

Sean is well suited to lead Vanguard’s European operations, which has more than $116 billion in assets under management as at the end of August 2016,” said Norris.

Hagerty replaces John James, who will relocate to Vanguard’s headquarters in the US to lead the firm’s global human resources division as managing director. James will join the senior leadership team and report to Bill McNabb, chairman and chief executive of Vanguard. He succeeds Kathleen Gubanich, who will retire at the end of 2016 after a 30-career at the firm. She has led the human resources division since 1995.
