Based in Hong Kong, Nick Pollard, whose appointment is effective immediately, will support the CFA Institute across the Asia-Pacific region. He will lead further growth in the region, especially the fast growing China and India markets. Paul Smith held the role previously, keeping the position on an interim basis after he was appointed as president and chief executive of the CFA Institute globally in January 2015, a spokesperson said.

“As CFA Institute continues to deepen its impact throughout APAC, we need strong leadership to help advance the investment profession in some of our most critical markets,” said Smith.

Pollard previously served as CEO of Royal Bank of Scotland’s Coutts Asia division, and most recently was head of international learning and professional development for Coutts International. (Last year, that business was acquired from RBS by Geneva-headquartered Union Bancaire Privée.) Pollard’s career spans more than 30 years across banking, wealth management and talent development.

The CFA Institute said Pollard’s appointment comes after the organisation opened new offices in Mumbai and Beijing last year. CFA Institute has over 137,000 members in 145 countries and territories, including 130,900 CFA charterholders, and 147 member societies.
