In the newly-created role, Edwards will be in charge of Tilney's investment management teams based in London, Liverpool and Birmingham. 

Based in Liverpool, he will also sit on the group’s executive board. Edwards joins from Julius Baer where he was managing director. He previously held senior roles at Barclays Wealth, Coutts and HSBC.

“In recent years we have assembled what I believe is an outstanding management team at the business and I am confident that as part of the leadership team Alan will play a pivotal role in the continued success of the businesses,” said Peter Hall, chief executive of Tilney Bestinvest. 

Tilney Bestinvest, which looks after £9 billion ($12.9 billion) in client assets, recently announced the acquisition of Ingenious Asset Management, which is set to complete in April. The combined group will manage £11.2 billion in discretionary accounts.
