Damon Williams and Alex Khein have been appointed as co-chief executives of , taking over from current CEO John Montalbano, who will become vice chairman of RBC Wealth Management. The leadership transition is effective as of 1 May 2015. In their respective Vancouver- and London-based roles, Williams and Khein will report to George Lewis, group head of RBC Wealth Management & RBC Insurance. As vice chairman of RBC Wealth Management, Montalbano – who will continue reporting to Lewis – will support business development and projects for the division as well as other RBC businesses. He will also advise the co-CEOs of RBC GAM and Lewis, particularly with respect to merger and acquisition opportunities for RBC GAM. Over the past number of years, Montalbano has worked closely with Khein and Williams to position them to take on these roles, and the succession plan is now ready to be implemented. The firm described the news as a natural change in leadership, particularly as organisations often benefit from the rejuvenation that ensues. In 2005 Williams joined Phillips, Hager & North Investment Management, which was acquired by RBC in 2008. Since 2009 he has served as head of RBC GAM’s institutional business globally and president of PH&N IM. Khein, meanwhile, joined BlueBay Asset Management in 2004 and was appointed as chief operating officer in 2005. BlueBay was acquired by RBC in 2010 and Khein will remain as partner and CEO of BlueBay - a position he has held since January 1, 2014. RBC GAM has over C$350 billion (about $305 billion) in assets under management and 23 investment teams across North America, Europe and Asia.
