has furthered its plans to increase its foothold in Europe with the appointment of a head of UK business development.

Neil Steedman takes up the newly-created role at the firm’s London office, leaving his post of head of UK discretionary sales at Aberdeen Asset Management.

He will direct the firm’s business development and client services activities in the UK and select European markets as the Asia-only investment firm continues to grow its global operations, Matthews Asia said in a statement.

Steedman will report to Jonathan Schuman, the firm’s head of global business development.

“Neil’s appointment reflects Matthews Asia’s strategic commitment to provide distinctive Asian investment strategies and high‐quality service to our partners and investors across the UK and Europe,” Schuman said.

Matthews Asia gives European investors access to nine Asia-focused funds and has $27.9 billion in assets under management, as at 30 November this year.
