Top Private Banking Lawyer Joins Rothschild as Non-Exec

An international tax lawyer, Philip Marcovici, has joined the board of Rothschild Private Banking & Trust , Rothschild said.

Mr Marcovici, who is also a member of the editorial board at WealthBriefing, is currently based at the Zurich offices of Baker and McKenzie, where he is an international partner in charge of the private banking practice and will continue to work at that firm.

As a result of the Rothschild appointment, he will also be a member of the board of directors of its subsidiary, Rothschild Bank AG, Rothschild said in a statement.

Mr Marcovici holds law degrees from both Harvard Law School and the University of Ottawa. He joined Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong in 1982, becoming an international partner in 1988. He has been a partner of the Zurich office of Baker & McKenzie since 1996, and has also practiced in Vancouver, British Columbia, and New York.

The chair of Baker & McKenzie’s global private banking practice group steering committee, Mr Marcovici is also chief executive of LawInContext, the interactive knowledge and training venture of Baker & McKenzie.

Mr Marcovici’s focus is on advising wealth owners on global tax, trust and other legal issues, including family business succession, and in working with the wealth management industry on strategy and training.

Among his other ventures, Mr Marcovici recently was involved in the founding of The Association of International Wealth Managers
