Boodle Hatfield, the UK law firm, has bolstered its family team with the addition of Christopher Butler, who was latterly a partner and head of the family team at Speechly Bircham.
Butler, who joins as a consultant, specialises in complex, high-value divorce cases, often with an international dimension, and has particular expertise in financial and trust issues. He has advised professional and other trustees, both on- and offshore, in family proceedings and in matters related to wealth protection and structuring; his clients have included high-profile media, political and sports personalities, the firm said.
Boodle Hatfield has been in the news recently over a high-profile civil partnership dissolution. At the end of last month a UK court awarded Boodle Hatfield client Don Gallagher some 33 per cent of the assets from his former civil partnership to Peter Lawrence, a city equity analyst. The initial award for the actor, who starred in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, was 42 per cent.
The decision was described by Gallagher’s lawyers at Boodle Hatfield as “disappointing”.
