Brooks Macdonald Asset Management has appointed Toby Thompson as investment management director in London.

Thompson, whose career has focused on the management of UK equity portfolios for institutional pension funds and retail OEICs, was previously with New Star Asset Management for eight years. Before this he worked for Newton and Eagle Star Investment Managers.

Brooks Macdonald said its roster of investment managers now numbers 47, with a further 13 trainees waiting in the wings.

In related news, at the start of this month Brooks Macdonald announced the completion of its acquisition of the investment management team at Clarke Willmott, the UK law firm – a deal which brought in £114 million ($177 million) of discretionary client assets and which is regarded by Brooks Macdonald as providing a gateway for the firm into the southwest of the UK.

The Taunton-based team has been rebranded as Brooks Macdonald Asset Management, and it became the firm’s sixth office location after London, Hampshire, Manchester, Tunbridge Wells and Edinburgh.
