Citi Private Bank has appointed UBS veteran Thierry Martin as team head and senior banker covering the Gulf region.

In his new role Martin will primarily focus on the ultra high net worth markets of Kuwait and Qatar and will be based in Geneva, the bank said in a statement.

Martin had previously spent over 23 years at UBS, with the Gulf region being his primary coverage market throughout. He was most recently head of the Middle East & North Africa desk – a London and Jersey-based role he was appointed to in 2006 – having previously been the Swiss banking giant’s due diligence officer for the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East & African region for five years.

Martin’s appointment closely follows last week’s news of three new senior hires in the UK.

Joss Mitchell, a private banker who joined from HSBC, was appointed business development director; James Tussaud, latterly of UBS, was appointed vice president at the firm’s ultra high net worth desk; and Mikhail Tabakov joined as private banker covering Russian clients based in London.
