The global asset management arm of London-listed Aviva has boosted its investment research capabilities.

Aviva Investors has hired Michael Grady as senior economist and strategist.

Grady joins Aviva Investors from COMAC Capital, a global macro hedge fund, where he was responsible for the fundamental analysis used for the investment process. He previously spent a decade at the Bank of England in various senior roles, latterly as senior manager in the markets directorate.

In the newly created role, Grady will monitor and analyse macroeconomic, market and policy developments across a range of countries. He will also take a leading role in determining the investment strategy for the Aviva Investors Multi-Strategy fund range.

Grady will be based in London, reporting to the firm's head of strategy, Ian Pizer.

“A deeply embedded discipline in fundamental research and strategy has proved pivotal so far in driving the strong performance of our AIMS funds and more widely across our fund range. Michael brings considerable experience in market analysis and in the development of investment strategies, qualities that will help us achieve continued success,” said Pizer.

Aviva Investors operates from 15 countries in Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America and the UK, with assets under management of £263 billion ($397 billion) as of the end of June.
