Alliance Trust is making Rob Burgess its new managing director of Alliance Trust Savings. He joins the company on 16 February and, following the necessary regulatory approvals, will assume the role with immediate effect.

Mr Burgess previously managed the retail and business banking sectors of Lloyds TSB Scotland and subsequently was regional director for its retail banking business in

London and the South East. Between these roles Mr Burgess was Strategic Future business programme director for Lloyds TSB’s subsidiary, Scottish Widows. More recently he was executive director, sales and distribution, for Thomas Cook

“His excellent leadership skills will prove invaluable as we continue to develop Alliance Trust Savings as a business. He will also bring a fresh impetus to the initiatives which are already underway within Alliance Trust Savings to improve operational efficiency and client service, and ultimately deliver long-term value to our shareholders,”said Katherine Garrett-Cox, chief executive of Alliance Trust.

Alliance Trust was founded in 1888. As at 31 December 2008, the trust managed assets of more than £2.2 billion ($3.2 billion). Of the company’s net assets, around 2 per cent was invested in its subsidiaries, which include Alliance Trust Savings.
