Who’s Moving Where In Wealth Management? – Close Brothers, Standard Chartered, Others

The latest moves and appointments in wealth management in the UK, the rest of Europe, the Middle East and other select locations.

Close Brothers Asset Management
Close Brothers Asset Management announced this week that Simon Long has joined as an investment director to help grow the business. 

Based in Birmingham, he will provide a discretionary investment management service and manage direct client relationships across the region, the firm said in a statement.

With over 20 years of experience, he is joining from Investec Wealth & Investment, where he managed investments for advisors and private clients in various capacities, including SIPP and SSAS pension funds, investment companies and OEICs.

Long began his career at Brewin Dolphin, before joining Williams de Broe, prior to the acquisition of Evolution Group’s private client business in 2011. He is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Standard Chartered
Standard Chartered, an international banking group, has appointed Dr John Murton CMG as senior sustainability advisor within its chief sustainability officer team. 

Based in London, he will serve as a senior ambassador for the bank helping to develop and enhance governmental, civil society and private sector relationships, with a particular focus on public-private partnerships aimed at catalysing sustainable finance in its markets. He will report directly to Marisa Drew, chief sustainability officer.

Murton has a diplomatic career spanning 25 years, including posts in Asia and Africa, with a particular emphasis on energy transition and climate. He is joining Standard Chartered after three years in his most recent role as the UK government’s COP26 Envoy, coordinating the UK’s climate diplomacy for COP26 in Glasgow. As COP Envoy, he oversaw the World Leaders Summit element of COP26.

Prior to this, he served as the UK Ambassador to six African nations, including DRC, Mauritius and Madagascar, and was the UK’s Permanent Representative to the UN Environment Programme in Nairobi.

He was previously head of the FCDO’s East Asia and Pacific Department, overseeing the UK’s diplomatic relations with countries of ASEAN, North East Asia and the Pacific. Earlier in his career, John was the UK’s energy and environment attaché in Tokyo.

Amundi 
Amundi made three senior hires this week, appointing Cinzia Tagliabue as chairman of Amundi Italy’s board of directors, Gabriele Tavazzani as CEO of Amundi in Italy and Franck Du Plessix as CEO of Amundi in Austria.

Tagliabue is head of the international partner networks division and a member of the General Management Committee of Amundi. She has been CEO of Amundi in Italy since 2017, the firm said in a statement. 

Tagliabue, who had been deputy head of partner networks division and a member of the general management committee of Amundi since 2020, took on the role of head of international partner networks division in March 2022.Tagliabue joined Amundi from Pioneer Investments where she had been CEO in Italy and head of Western Europe & Latin America since 2001.

With over 30 years of experience in financial services with UniCredit, both on investment and distribution sides, she has been working in the investment industry since 1980. Tagliabue is also president of Hope Sicaf and vice president of Assogestioni.

Since May 2020, Tavazzani was CEO of Amundi in Austria. Prior to that she had been deputy CEO since 2018, the firm continued. Before joining Amundi Austria, Tavazzani was CEO, president of the management board and CIO of Amundi in Poland from 2015.

Tavazzani, who has been working within the Crédit Agricole Group since 1996, has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, acquired both in Italy and internationally.

Previous to Du Plessix's new role as CEO of Amundi in Austria, he spent seven years as CEO and chairman of the board of directors of Amundi Czech Republic and Amundi Czech Republic Asset Management, the firm said.

Prior to that, he served in various roles in the business development of Amundi’s retail network and partnerships. Du Plessix joined Amundi in 2008 to lead the business development of structured products with the retail distribution networks.

He started his career at Société Générale in 1988 and held several positions in capital markets in Paris and Asia, before becoming sales director with Société Générale Private Banking France. 

PIMFA
PIMFA, the UK’s wealth management, investment services and the personal investment and financial advice trade association, has welcomed Rathbones Group’s group chief executive officer, Paul Stockton and The Openwork Partnership’s, managing director, Stuart Dodson to its board of directors.

Stockton joined Rathbones in 2008 as group finance director, a role he remained in until 2018 when he then became managing director of Rathbone Investment Management. He was appointed chief executive of Rathbone Brothers in May 2019. Stockton, who has more than 30 years’ experience of financial services, qualified as an accountant with PriceWaterhouse in 1992. 

Dodson is a sales and distribution professional with 24 years’ experience of working in the financial advice sector across directly authorised, introduced and appointed representative business models. For the eight years prior to joining Openwork in February 2022, he was managing director of Newcastle Financial Advisers, one of The Openwork Partnership’s largest partner advice businesses.
