International law firm Charles Russell Speechlys has appointed Carolyn Steppler as a UK tax consultant in its Zurich office.

Steppler (pictured), who is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales, is renowned for her expertise in UK personal taxation. Her experience and knowledge will be especially valuable to individuals and families as they prepare for sweeping changes to the UK tax regime which are expected to be introduced from April 2025, the firm said in a statement. She will assist clients with estate and succession planning, investment structures for private wealth and relocation – again, particularly relevant in light of the UK budget announcements.

During a career spanning more than 25 years, Steppler has worked as a wealth planner at Credit Suisse (now UBS), where she was head of wealth planning UK, and the leader of the European wealth planning team pre-merger. Her previous roles include private client tax partner at Ernst & Young LLP UK in London, associate partner at KPMG London, and head of the specialist tax group at HSBC Private Bank in London.

“We are at a pivotal moment with the UK budget announcements and Carolyn’s arrival could not be more timely. Her profound experience in UK private client tax, coupled with her extensive international network, makes her an invaluable asset to our team. Carolyn’s strategic insight will be instrumental in navigating our clients through the complexities of the new UK tax landscape,” Mark Summers, head of international tax, Charles Russell Speechlys Switzerland, said.

Steppler’s appointment follows a number of recent arrivals at Charles Russell Speechlys, including the appointment of corporate tax partner James Stewart in London last month, adding weight to the firm's commitment to providing comprehensive tax and legal services to its UHNW clients.
