Who's Moving Where in Wealth Management? Smith & Williamson, Aegon, Brown Shipley, Others
The latest moves in wealth management across Europe and the Middle East.
Smith & Williamson
UK financial services firm Smith &
Williamson has appointed Jules Porter as a director of its
investment management team in the Guildford office.
Porter joins from Investec and has worked in the industry for 25
years. He specialises in discretionary investment management for
individuals, families and family trusts, as well as charities.
His main area of expertise is constructing and managing bespoke
portfolios working closely with clients to reach their financial
objectives over the long term.
Maggie Lowe, head of Smith & Williamson’s Guildford office said:
“Jules brings vast experience and expertise to the office and his
approach to looking after clients, and their wealth, is very much
in tune with ours.”
Based in central Guildford, the investment management team works
alongside specialists in pensions, personal financial planning,
tax and accountancy on behalf of individuals, businesses, trusts
and charities.
Aegon
Aegon
Asset Management has added three hires. Rebecca Dreyfus and
Stephanie Mooij have joined AAM as senior engagement associates
within the global Responsible Business and Public Affairs team.
The third hire, Gerrit Ledderhof joins AAM as a responsible
investment and public affairs manager.
Dreyfus previously worked at Sustainalytics where latterly she
was a client relations manager advising and supporting Nordic
clients in developing and implementing ESG integration strategies
across asset classes.
Mooij joins the business after recently finishing a PhD on ESG
integration at Oxford University. She has worked as an equity
portfolio analyst at Ownership Capital – a long term equity
investor – with responsibilities for ESG and financial
analysis of companies in various sectors. Ledderhof joins from
the Canadian Ministry of the Environment in Toronto where he was
a project manager and team lead in the Ministry’s Climate
Programs Branch. His previous roles have included strategy
manager at the Carbon Trust in London.
Brown Shipley
Brown Shipley
has appointed Nick Cringle as regional head for the North West.
In the newly created post, he will also lead the firm’s team in
Manchester and reports to Guy Healey, head of private banking at
the firm.
Cringle’s appointment, which starts in May, is the latest in a series of strategic senior hires following the appointment of new chief executive officer, Alan Mathewson, in April last year.
A 30-year practitioner in wealth management, Cringle will also join Brown Shipley’s senior private client wealth management team.
He is currently director of private banking at Arbuthnot Latham in Manchester. Prior to this, he spent over 20 years in a number of senior roles at Coutts, including global co-chief investment officer in Hong Kong and global head of tailored portfolio management in London.
The group said his appointment will allow Jon Sherlock, the current lead in Manchester, to focus more on growth plans nationwide among its largest clients.
The wealth manager has upped its presence in the North West in recent years, including acquiring the Roberts Partnership in 2017.
“Manchester and the North West are extremely important to Brown Shipley. The Bank was founded in the region over 200 years ago and we continue to invest to maintain our growth momentum and to further strengthen the business,” said Healey.
Charles Stanley
UK wealth manager Charles Stanley has
appointed John Porteous as group head of distribution. In
this newly created role, he will have group-wide responsibility
for developing overall distribution strategy for services and
products, in order to generate business flows and market presence
across all areas of the business, as well as inputting into
overall proposition development and evolution.
Porteous reports to Paul Abberley, chief executive.
In a career spanning more than 25 years, Porteous has held a
number of senior roles in the financial planning and wealth
management sector. He is both a Chartered Fellow of the Institute
for Securities and Investment and a Chartered Financial
Planner.
