Labelling the initiative a first-of-its-kind investment strategy, Lombard Odier is teaming up with a royal family backed alliance to launch a global equity fund targeting natural capital. As such, these are investments funnelled into companies and innovations using renewable natural capital to manage land, food, health, and industrial systems and cities.

The Swiss private bank has developed the equity fund in partnership with the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance, established by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales under his Sustainable Markets Initiative to speed up the transition towards leaner industries and zero waste.

The high-conviction portfolio of 40-50 companies will explicitly focus on publicly listed, small to mid-sized companies in North America, Europe and Asia. The goal is to invest in already profitable companies, mainly concentrating on four areas: the circular bioeconomy, resource efficiency, outcome orientated consumption and zero waste.

Lombard Odier IM will manage the strategy and provide investors with stewardship progress across the portfolio.

“If we are to drive global economic growth, it is imperative that we value and invest in our natural capital,” Prince Charles said.

Hubert Keller, CEO of Lombard Odier IM, added: “The investment industry, which represents $120 trillion of capital, will always seek returns as a primary objective. Today some of the most convincing returns opportunities lie in the transition to a more sustainable economic model, putting climate transition and nature centre stage.”
