Walkers Seminar Series In Asia Focusses On Region's Financial Hub Role

Asia's growing position as a centre of global financial success
is spurring a lot of interest from both individuals and firms
looking for fresh opportunities.
At the recent three-day seminar series sponsored by international
law firm
Walkers, titled "Global Growth, Regional Gain," financial,
investment, and legal specialists came together to look at
studies and real experiences involving Asia's rise in the hedge
fund, private equity, and finance sectors. Present at the event
were the likes of Advantage Partners, Carlyle, Deutsche Bank,
Harvest Capital Partners, and Goldman Sachs, among others.
"We have seen growing interest in Asia as a financial centre over
the past months; even the typically slow summer months were
extremely busy this year. Offshore-onshore interaction has become
a necessity to favorably resolve restructuring and insolvency
issues from the global financial crisis. As economies around the
world rebuild, the Asian markets present tremendous
opportunities,"
Guy Locke, head of Walkers' corporate and financial
restructuring group, head of Asia, and managing partner of
Walkers Hong Kong, said.
The seminars were held in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo
throughout September and were tailored to the unique environment
of each region. The Hong Kong event discussed hedge funds,
private equities, special purpose vehicles, and the greater China
market. In China, the focus was on PE, new trends in finance, and
corporate and financial restructuring. The Tokyo series
highlighted the re-emergence of domestic managers in the country,
as well as the growth of offshore hedge funds, diversity in fund
strategies, risk and governance, and hedge fund regulation.
