WEALTH TALK: Focus On Possible Bank Mega-Merger
It may be a speculative story at this stage, but a recent report, quoting unnamed sources, saying that the heads of UBS and Credit Suisse were considering a possible merger has been one of the most-read articles on this news service since the start of 2020, putting even coverage of COVID-19 into the shade.
Two of the largest banks operating in the world's wealth management industry, UBS and Credit Suisse, were recently reported to be in talks - at least according to unnamed sources - about a possible corporate merger. Such a deal, if it were to happen, would be significant in all of the areas in which these firms operate. Needless to say, this is a speculative matter, and neither bank has commented about it when asked by this news service, so the usual caveats and health warnings on these stories apply! What is certainly the case is that pressures for M&A remain strong around the world.
