UniCredit Names New Head Of Asset Management

Italy’s UniCredit has named Sandro Pierri as its new head of asset management – an appointment which will see him proposed as the chief executive of Pioneer Investments at a board meeting in July.

Pierri will replace Roger Yates, who is stepping down as CEO of Pioneer to return to London. Yates will however remain on Pioneer's board as a non-executive director after he steps down on 24 July.

Pierri has been with Pioneer since 2003, most recently serving as head of western Europe and International and as CEO of Pioneer Investments in Italy. Before joining Pioneer he worked at ING Investment Management for close to a decade.

In his new role Pierri will report directly to Federico Ghizzoni, CEO of UniCredit.

Last month Pioneer beefed up its newly-created emerging market team based in London with five hires.

The team now includes Sebastian Barry Taylor, consumer analyst and team leader; Ji Young Park, consumer analyst; Richard Clode, technical analyst for global emerging markets; Caroline Galligan, financial analyst; and Oleksiy Soroka, senior credit analyst. All of them report to Marco Mencini, head of equity and emerging market research, apart from Soroka who reports to Garrett Walsh, head of credit research for Europe and Asia.

The addition of the emerging markets team in London was announced in February; the firm previously had emerging markets teams in other parts of the world and they have now been brought together into one entity which combines equity and fixed income.
